eLC Retreat 2010 @ Kota Kinabalu

Written by Saw Kim Chun

This year 2010 marks eLC's achievement of having reached its 7th Annual Retreat, and it was held at the beautiful 'Land beneath the wind' - Kota Kinabalu, Sabah! We, eLCians from Malaysia joined our colleagues from Singapore, at KK airport on Aug 28th. On arrival, we went for a short day trip around KK and was served a scrumptious seafood for lunch! What an awesome start to the whole trip.

We stayed in Le Méridien Hotel, which embraces the eclectic beauty of Sabah whilst showcasing superb views of the city, South China Sea and sunsets. Located in downtown Kota Kinabalu, the hotel lies within easy walking distance of local attractions, and retail and entertainment facilities. This gave us great access without having to travel far, to fill our time during the Retreat. Due to the Ramadan fasting month, we had the opportunity to feast on the local Food Bazaars, cheap and tasty local treats.

Our retreat started with a relaxing free and easy session for the staff while the business unit heads start a series of meetings to plan for the direction of the company for the coming year. The AGM was held on the 2nd day with 54 of our staff from eLC Pte Ltd, eLC Services Sdn Bhd and POWERdrive Pte Ltd congregating for the session. During the AGM, we were updated about the company´s future projects and direction. The AGM closed with a presentation of the Tag Heuer watch to our 5-years' service award recipient, Head Business Development, Keith.

The day after the AGM, the whole eLC team proceeded to Manukan Island where we had a full morning of team building activities which ended with a sumptuous BBQ eat-all-you-can lunch. After lunch, it was free and easy time, of which many went for the island activities such as volleyball, football, snorkeling, Scuba-Doo, and kayaking (to name a few). As typical tourist, everyone was busy taking pictures for memories to keep as well as to capture the beauty of the island surrounding us. Having said that, one could not ignore the fact that the opportunities we all have had of building new friendships and bringing new depths to existing friendships, helps create a greater sense of eLC being a family. By late afternoon, we all head back to the city and the boat rides between Manukan Island and KK mainland were also part of the highlights of our trip.

Overall, we ate a lot, walked a lot, talked a lot, laughed a lot, enjoyed the local scenes nearby the hotel, beautiful sunsets every evening, and the retail and entertainment facilities nearby kept us all busy during the whole trip. After 4 days of meetings and rest & relaxation, we bid farewell to the 'Land beneath the wind'. It was a great annual retreat!
